384,600. Rotary engines. KOROSTOVETZ, J., 82 bis, Rue Charles-Laffitte, Neuilly-sur-Seine, France..July 4, 1932, No. 18805. Convention date, April 13. [Class 110 (ii).] A rotary internal-combustion engine with rotary abutments has two working chambers 7, 7a, and a compressor chamber 19 which alternately supplies gaseous fuel to the chambers 7, 7a. The abutments 10, 10a, for the piston discs 9, 9a, rest on bearings 11, 12, and 11a, 12a, and are driven at the same speed as the working shaft 23 by gears 26, 27. The abutment for the compressor piston disc 21 is of similar construction and revolves at the same speed as abutments 10, 10a but on a separate shaft. Disc valves 16, 16a control the supply of compressed gas from the chamber 19 to chambers 7, 7a by means of delivery apertures 31a which co-operate with ports in the walls of the chambers 7, 7a. These disc valves are driven by gears such as 17a at half the speed of the piston discs. An explosion occurs once per revolution, i.e. once per two revolutions of each disc 9, 9a, to impel the pistons forward. During alternate revolutions of each piston disc, cooling air is drawn into the working chambers through apertures in disc valves 3, 3a, driven by gears 4, 4a, at the same speed as disc valves 16, 16a. Ball thrust bearings are provided in the casing walls, which bear on the faces of the disc valves. Semicircular spring-loaded packing rings 13, 14, 13a, 14a bear on the rotary abutments. Packing rings 37, 38, 39, 41 rotate in grooves in the casing ; piston rings 43 are also provided. Water cooling may also be used. The number of engine units may be increased.
