Abstract
384,577. Bag &c. handles. MARTIN, P. A., New Works, Granville Street, Birmingham. June 10, 1932, No. 16386. [Class 133.] To facilitate carrying and distribute the weight more evenly, each end of the carrying handle or handles of a handbag or case is provided with an extension or connecting part extending down over or against one of the sides or vertical walls, preferably inside the bag, and attached to a spring or resilient device anchored or connected to the body. Fig. 3 shows the ends of one of the handles 2 of a bag as connected by metal rings 3 to the upper ends of leather &c. straps 4 which enter the bag through oblique slots 5, passing through and being anchored at the lower ends to coiled springs 6 and being slidable over straps 7 by means of which the springs are attached to the wall of the bag. Fig. 6 shows an alternative arrangement where the straps 4 are attached to a bar 8 connected to the bag by springs 9 ; the springs in this construction may be replaced by elastic webbing. In the form shown in Fig. 8 the straps are attached to coils 13 formed at the ends of a resilient rod or wire 12 which is formed intermediately into spring attachment loops 14.
