Abstract
Building blocks are made by a two-stage process. (1) Sinter or fuse approximately equal parts of clay and sand, grind the cooled product. (2) Fuse approximately equal parts of the material prepared in (1) and raw sand, and cast into blocks. In an example the first stage material is made by fusing 60 parts of sand and 40 parts of clay. Up to 50 per cent of the sand or the clay or both may be replaced by atomized volcanic scoria, slate ashes or silicates, or rocks and minerals containing silicon or iron. Equal parts of the ground product so prepared and raw sand are mixed, heated to melting and allowed to flow in a continuous stream into moulds.
