Abstract

519,885. Moulding powders. McINTOSH, A. M., and PHILLIPS, A. H. Oct. 5, 1938, No. 28848. [Class 87 (ii)] Articles such as tiles, slabs, plaques, electric insulators, abrasive wheels, oil stones, statuary, rods, tubes, buttons, hand grips &c. are made by subjecting to a high pressure in a mould a dry mixture of finely-ground non-plastic material such as non-argillaceous rock, rock crystal, or other natural or artificial refractory materials excepting graphite, carbon, or like carbonaceous materials, with wax, tallow, or other viscous material that will disappear at relatively low temperatures, removing the moulded article and heating it slightly above the melting temperature of the binder to remove the major portion thereof, and then heating the article in a muffle or other furnace to a temperature slightly above or below the fusion temperature of the material, for example, from 600‹ C. to 2,000‹ C.
