Abstract

383,696. Compound glass. WILLIAMS, W., 77, Muncaster Road, and INVESTORS MANAGING TRUST, Ltd., 54, New Broad Street, both in London. Sept. 25, 1931, No. 26784. [Class 140.] Laminated glass articles such as lenses are made by applying heat and pressure to the assembly of glass sheets and interposed reinforcing sheets through the medium of a granular or finely divided substance such as common salt or plumbago. Lens parts 1, 2 and a reinforcing sheet 3, temporarily held together around the edges by gummed paper or adhesive tape, are supported in a cylindrical metal receptacle 4 by a wooden block. A layer 6 of common salt is spread over the assembly and a metal closure 7 applied. The receptacle 4 is then inverted, the wooden block removed and a layer 8 of common salt is spread on the upper surface of the assembly. Pressure is applied by a disc 9 through a rod 12 and heat is supplied by a hot-plate 13.
