Abstract
Human and animal foodstuffs, e.g. butter, potato chips or cattle feeds, and other commodities containing oils, fats and waxes and subject to rancidity, are preserved by exclusion or absorption of all light except that having wavelengths lying between 4900 and 5600 Angstrom units. The commodity may be enclosed in a green protective screen, e.g. by wrapping in green transparent paper &c., or chemical means may be added to the commodity, capable of absorbing and excluding all the unwanted rays, e.g. an appropriate dye may be mixed with the commodity or a coating of chemicals having the required colour may be applied by painting on, dipping, &c. The protective materials assist in maintaining the natural colour of the commodity. Specification 213,810, [Class 94 (i), Packing &c.], is referred to.
