Abstract
382,996. Discharge apparatus. DAVIS, N. R., 10, Atkinson Road, Sale, Cheshire, BURCH, C. R., 12, Derbyshire Lane, Stretford, Lancashire, LUDLOW, J. H., 8, Bogden Grove, Brooklands, Cheshire, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Sept. 17, 1931, No. 26086. [Class 39 (i).] In high-power tubes having a demountable anode forming a part of the envelope, finely divided or tortuous cooling channels over substantially the whole of the anode have their boundary walls integral or in good thermal contact with the anode. Grooves may be cut in the surface, or a web or fin of appropriate shape may be welded or soldered on, and a cover provided. In one form, Fig. 1, a radial pipe 11 admits cooling fluid to the peripheral groove 10 connected by longitudinal channels 1, 2, 3, &c. and peripheral transfer ports 14, 15 to the lower groove 12, which is supplied with an outlet 13. In a modification the grooves 10, 12 are at the same end of the anode. In another modification interlacing zig-zag channels are provided, each of which is connected to one peripheral groove 10, 12 only, and is supplied with an additional outlet pipe. In the construction shown in Figs. 4, 5, and 6, longitudinal channels 33 .. 45 are connected alternately by radial channels 46 and peripheral grooves 47 cut in the anode 31. The tubes are closed by plugs 48 except for the tube 45 which is open to the space 49 situated above the anode proper and closed by a cap 32c. The even-numbered tubes are connected at the upper end by radial channels 51 and peripheral grooves 52. The lower end of the anode has the same construction, as shown in Fig. 4. The tube 44 is common to both sets, and has an outlet pipe 55 for fluid entering at the inlet pipes 50. In a modification, Fig. 7, the radial channels 51 and peripheral grooves 52 are formed in a washer 53 of the same shape as Fig. 6, which is covered by a thinner washer 54 having an appropriate part 55a. Upon this is placed a washer 56 of the same shape as the washer 53 but rotated through an appropriate angle to supply alternate tubes to those supplied through the washer 53. An additional washer 57 has a single hole 58 which supplies fluid from a channel 59 in the cap 32e. The fluid may enter and leave at the same end of the anode bv means of the dotted channel 60 which is provided with a radial outlet 61, whilst the member 53 may be cut with notches to connect the channel 60 with such of the longitudinal channels as may be desired. Specification 206,155, [Class 39 (i), Electric lamps, Arc &c.], is referred to.
