Abstract
382,953. Rotary pumps or engines. COMMERCIAL PATENTS, Inc., 1775, Broadway, New York, U.S.A. June 4, 1931, No. 16254. Convention date, June 11, 1930. [Class 110 (ii).] In a Roots blower type of pump or engine the cross section of the pistons varies in angular position gradually from one end to the other. Fig. 1 shows co-operating pistons which are separated by a small clearance in which the pistons P, P<1> are twisted through 90‹ from one end to the other, the object being to obtain uniform delivery of fluid from an inlet I to an outlet O. The pump shafts S, S<1> are connected by gear wheels G, G<1>. In a modified arrangement, Fig. 10, the pistons are built up of laminations p, each lamination being displaced through a small angle relatively to the preceding lamination. The piston shape is not restricted to oval or elliptical outlines. In another form, Fig. 13, one piston is constructed of inner and outer cylindrical profiles p<1>, p5, the upper portion varying from the width gh to a point and then widening out again. The portion p<5> is connected to the inner cylinder p<7> by helical sides p<9>. The co-operating rotor p<2> has recesses p<6>, Fig. 14, which mesh with the triangular-shaped portions p<5> on the rotor p<3>. Fig. 14 is a developed view of the two cooperating rotors p<2>, p<3> The portions p<6>, p<7> are depressed and the portions p<4>, p<5> are raised. The rotors may have more than two portions of small diameter and two portions of large diameter. Connecting gear wheels may be dispensed with in the form shown in Figs. 13 and 14.
