Abstract
382,777. Rearing-appliances,; poultry houses. MILLER (DENNY), Ltd., R. and McWATT, J. S., Broomhill, Bonnybridge, Stirlingshire. Nov. 24, 1931, No. 32512. [Classes 5 (i) and 5 (ii).] A brooder convertible into a night ark comprises a casing structure including a cold chamber having a removable boarded floor, said structure being adapted to receive a removable hot chamber alongside the cold chamber and being provided with a wire floor exposed on removal of the hot chamber and the floor of the cold chamber. The brooder comprises a wooden casing 1 with handles 2 and a longitudinally sliding, sheet metal roof 3. The hot chamber 5 which may be withdrawn bodily has a solid boarded floor 6 and the cold chamber 7 a removable boarded floor 8, both floors being superposed on a mesh floor 9 below which is a droppings tray 10. Ventilators 11, 12 adjustable by chain-and-hook attachments, are rendered vermin-proof by netting 14, 15, the ventilator 11 being carried by a hinged frame 16 openable to permit withdrawal of the tray 10. A ridge ventilator 17 is controlled by sliding shutters. An opening 20 covered with netting may be closed by a sliding shutter of glass transparent to ultra-violet rays. The hot chamber 5 also comprises a removable cover 23 having an adjustable shutter, handle 25 and heat-deflecting plate 26, a metallic shell 27 and guard 29 surrounding a lamp 28, feet 30 and a glazed aperture 32. Feeding and drinking troughs 33 are provided in the cold chamber which communicates with the hot chamber by a doorway 31.
