Abstract

Decorative compositions, particularly intended for laying in situ for floorings &c., are made by incorporating pieces of coloured stone, metal, vulcanized rubber &c. in a paste of rubber latex and filler. In examples, latex of 70, 60, or 40 per cent concentration is mixed in the presence of a casein base cold water glue with vulcanizing materials, including ultra-accelerators, and with fillers such as china clay, asbestos powder, alumina, calcium hydroxide, fine sand, hydraulic cement, in total weight about equal to the latex, and the paste is mixed with about an equal weight of the decorative material in small irregular pieces of diameter 1/16 to 3/8 inch. The composition is spread e.g. by a trowel, allowed to set and dry for say 24 to 48 hours, and the surface is then ground or polished. The paste may include carbon black, pigments, dyes, and an anti-ager.
