Abstract
382,518. R÷ntgen-ray apparatus. MœLLER AKT.-GES. C. H. F., 24, Rontgenstrasse, Hamburg, Germany. March 7, 1932, No. 6802. Convention date, March 11, 1931. [Class 98 (i).] A device for X-ray examination of small quantities of material, especially a liquid or powder, comprises a hollow metal body which is attachable, as by a screw thread, to a mounting formed round the window portion of an X-ray tube, and which serves to receive a container enclosing the material. The body may house, at the end remote from the ray tube, a ray-measuring device such as an ionization chamber. It is stated that the device may be used for determining the ash content of various kinds of coal. As shown in Fig. 1, a ray tube 1 has a metal middle portion 2 which is fixed by a clasp 3 to a stand, and which has a screwed flange 5 round the emission window adapted to receive the screwed end of a tubular metal casing 6 having a hinged door 7 through which a container 9 enclosing the material to be examined may be inserted. An apertured chamber 10 at the end of the casing remote from the tube 1 serves to house the raymeasuring device. The casing 6 consists preferably of a metal having a high atomic weight so that it is impervious to X-rays. The container 9 consists of paper, celluloid or other ray-pervious material, and may be graduated. In a modification, the door 7 is not provided, and the casing 6 must be screwed off the ray tube for loading. In this form the container 9 is introduced through a window 18, Fig. 3. into an open-ended metal tube 16 which is loaded into the casing 6 through its upper end.
