Abstract

382,340. Exercising-apparatus. COE, F. E., 88, Staines Road, Twickenham, Middlesex. Aug. 10, 1931, No. 22610. [Class 132 (i).] In apparatus for practising walking exercises of the type comprising a flexible band 1, Fig. 1, of canvas, indiarubber &c. passing over and under a series of rollers 2, the frame 3 is formed of longitudinal channel members which provide the bearings for the rollers. Preferably, the rollers are supported by trunnions at their ends, which enter recesses 9, Fig. 3, formed in wood strips 10 mounted in the channel members. Lubrication is provided by blocks 11 of felt for retaining oil or graphite. The end roller is preferably mounted in movable bearing blocks 12 acted on by springs 13 to maintain the tension of the belt. A flywheel 8 is preferably provided on one of the rollers to secure smooth running and may be fitted with means for actuating a mileage indicator. The user may be supported by a post 5 with a handle 4 or by a belt passing around his body and secured to buckles 21 on posts at each end of the apparatus. The post 5 is mounted by a pin and slot 17, 16, Fig. 6, in a hinged eye 18 so as to be collapsable and, in use, lies in a socket 15. The support 14 is hinged.
