Abstract
381,955. Metals and alloys. BYRNE, E. L. W., 201, Bank Chambers, 329, High Holborn, London.-(American Smelting & Refining Co. ; 120, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.) July 6, 1931, No. 19476. [Class 82 (i).] In a process for the removal of tin from metals and alloys of low melting - point, particularly antimonial lead which may also contain arsenic and copper, the molten metal is rapidly agitated to form a tin dross, the dross is stirred back into the bath to further oxidize the tin and removed at intervals, and the operation continued until the desired composition is reached. The process may be carried out by forming a vortex in a bath 10 of the molten metal, by the rotation of an impeller 12. If the bath of antimonial lead contains copper, the copper will separate as a dross during the heating and may be removed. The process is said to be particularly suitable for the production of shot metal.
