[Class 60.] In a safety razor employing a double-edged blade, means are provided for sharpening one edge during the use of the other for shaving. The holder comprises a handle 11, Figs. 4 and 5, integral with a head 12 having side pieces 13, the head being braced by L-shaped members 14. The blade-clamp 30 and blade 28 are slotted to engage the forked end 17 of the lever 15 having manipulating-lugs 18 projecting through slots in the handle, whereby either edge of the blade can be advanced for shaving. Journalled in the side pieces 13 are ribbed guard rollers 20, 20<1>, Figs. 4 and 9, lower honing-rollers 22, 22<1> of hard steel &c., and idler pinions 27, 27<1>. The roller 22<1> is driven from the guard 20 by fast pinion 25, idler pinions 24, 27<1>, and fast pinion 23<1>, the roller 22 being similarly driven by fast pinion 25<1>, idler pinions 24<1>, 27, and fast pinion 23 from the guard 20<1>. When the left-hand edge of the blade is advanced, as shown in Fig. 4, a swinging frame 37, Fig. 10, pivoted on the stub axles 26 of the wheels 27, 27<1> and coupled to the lever 15 by a pin- and-slot connection 41, 40, is swung to bring an upper honing-roller 42<1> over the right-hand edge and to mesh a pinion 43<1> with the pinion 23<1>. On reversal of the blade, upper honing- roller 42 and pinions 43, 23 become operative. The clamp 30 is retained in place by bars 34, Figs. 4 and 13, carried by a member 32 clipped over the head 12 so as to be removable to release the blade for cleaning. In a modification, the frame 37 and rollers 42, 42<1> are dispensed with, the clamp 30 being integrally formed with the clip-member attached to the head and the blade alone moved by the lever 15.
