Abstract
381,266. Skylights. LYSAGHT, Ltd., J., St. Vincent's Iron Works, Silverthorne Lane, and PALMER, W. R., Invergordon, Cotham Park, Cotham, both in Bristol. July 24, 1931, No. 21222. [Class 20 (iii).] Relates to a method of converting a fixed or " dead skylight into a hinged skylight by the insertion of a removable glass - supporting frame. According to the invention, the frames a, d, Fig. 1, of a dead skylight are hinged together at c, and the frame d is provided with downturned lateral flanges j, Fig. 3, to which the removable frame g, Fig. 10, is adapted to be attached. When arranged as a fixed skylight, the frames. a, d receive a glass pane b between them and are secured together by a number of bolts f. In converting to a hinged skylight, these bolts are removed and the frame g is placed beneath the glass with its lateral flanges engaging with the flanges j of the frame d. The frames a, d are then secured together by bolts f<1> and thus form a glazed unit which can pivot about the hinge c. This hinge is constructed by forming interengaging scrolls in the frames a, d. A gutter adjacent to and parallel to the hinge c is secured to the frame a and is adapted to carry off any water which leaks past the glazed unit.
