Abstract

379,585. Winding webs. KRUIMEL, J. H. A., 20, Hooge Duin en Daalschweg, Bloemendaal, Holland. Dec. 15, 1931, No. 34732. [Class 100 (i).] In a machine for winding paper webs, the web is first attached to a roll 3 mounted by means of trunnions in open bearings 6 carried by a frame 20 which is acted on by springs or by a weight 9, via a cord 10, pulley 11, pinion 13, and rack 14, so as to press the roll 3 towards a winding-drum 1. As the paper is wound and the roll increases in diameter, the trunnions are released from the bearings 6 and are received in other open bearings 16 in levers 15 which normally rest by gravity in the position shown with a projection 19 bearing against a stop 18. The increase in diameter of the roll causes the levers 15 to move to the position shown in dotted lines and the winding is stopped and the levers 15 held by a bolt while the wound roll is removed by a crane. As soon as the roll is released from the first set of bearings, the frame 20 moves to the right under the action of the weight 9 so that the bearings are returned to their original position for taking up a fresh roll to enable the winding to be continued with little interruption as soon as the wound roll is removed.
