379,158. Photographic sensitive materials. I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE AKT.-GES., Frankfort-on-Main, Germany. Nov. 25, 1931, No. 32683. Convention date, Nov. 26, 1930. [Class 98 (ii).] The emulsion layer or support or an intermediate layer or backing on a photographic sensitive material is provided with a substance which colours or dulls the layer, is unaffected by the usual developing and fixing baths and may be decoloured or removed by the local application of a suitable agent. Examples of dulling materials and treating agents are (1) ferric hydroxide and oxalic acid, (2) Sirius Yellow R extra and acid hydrosulphite, (3) Guinea Green 2G and alkali lye, (4) calcium oxalate and hydrochloric acid, and (5) a resin, e.g. mastic, in gelatine and alcohol.
