Abstract
515,493. Photographic emulsions; developing. I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE AKT.-GES. June 3, 1938, No. 16680. Convention date, June 19, 1937. [Class 98 (ii)] Developed silver pictures in blue-black tones are produced from silver halide emulsions by adding to the developer or to. a preliminary bath or causing to be present during the development by adding to a layer or other component of the material or to its component materials a dialkylated derivative of 3-alkyl-2-thiohydantoin. The compound may be added to the raw material for the emulsion, or to the emulsion in any stage in its manufacture, or the finished emulsion layer may be bathed in a solution of the compound before exposure. The compound may be incorporated in an adhesive layer between the emulsion and the support,. in a sub-layer, in a backing layer, for example a non-curling or antihalation layer, in a' protecting layer, or in the barta layer, or may be incorporated in the paper pulp or in the size. Compounds referred to are 3 : 5: 5-trimethylthiohydantoin and 3-ethyl- 5: 5-dimethyl-thiohydantoin.
