Abstract
379,065. Ball bearings ; lubricating. HAMMOND CLOCK CO., 2911, North Western Avenue, Chicago, U.S.A. July 28, 1931, No. 21490. Convention date, July 30, 1930. [Classes 12 (i) and 12 (ii).] The stator of a synchronous motor of the unwound armature type for gramophones and the like is so mounted as to be capable of a slight rotary motion against the action of a spring, the rotation of the stator being also checked by friction ; the moment of inertia of the rotor is preferably considerably greater than that of the stator. In the arrangement shown the stator 11 is arranged inside the rotor 10 and is mounted on a sleeve 15 arranged within an outer bearing 16. The sleeve 15 carries an arm 19 which can oscillate between stops 17, 18 under its action of springs 22. The sleeve 15 is closed at its lower end by a plug 60 resting on perforated metal washers 56, 58. The disc 60 carries a blade spring 62 on which rests a ball 66 forming a thrust bearing for the gramophone spindle 64. The lower part of the motor housing 32 is enclosed by a partition 44 to form an oil reservoir. The partition 44 is formed with a vent plug 52 so arranged as tc prevent the escape of oil if the motor is inverted.
