Abstract

377,698. Gramophones. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and JACOBY, H. C. E., of General Electric Co., Witton, Birmingham. April 17, 1931, No. 11474. [Class 40 (ii).] In a gramophone motor of the squirrel-cage type the stator is mounted on a plate carrying a hub for the rotor spindle and hollowed out to accommodate a governor. The rotor consists of an internally-toothed laminated ring 26 held between rings 31 connected by bars 28 in the slots between the teeth, the whole being mounted on a disc 32 secured to the spindle 23 by a screw 37 engaging with a head 41 on the spindle. The stator laminations 1 are secured by screws 3 to a disc 10 carrying the hub 9 of the spindle 23. The disc 10 is concave in the middle with the exception of a boss 12 on which are mounted one bearing 25 of the governor and the regulating devices. The disc 10 is cut away as shown at 17 to accommodate the governor, which is of the ordinary type provided with a friction disc 62 engaging a brake block 89. The block 89 is carried on a lever 67 which can be adjusted by means of a cam on the end of an arm 77. The motion of the arm 77 is limited by a tongue 82 struck out of the arm 77 and engaging a slot 83 in a plate 88. The disc 10 is secured to the plate 88 by bolts 111 and rubber or like washers 113 to check vibration. The turn-table 47 is secured to the spindle 23 by a split ring 48. Within the hub 9 are bushings 52, 53 between which is a felt packing which receives lubricant from axial and transverse ducts 50, 51 in the spindle 23. Oil escaping at the bottom of the spindle is received in a well formed by an annular wall 33 on the disc 32. The spindle 57 of the governor is supported in bores in screws 63 in blocks, 24, 25, antithrust balls 65 being provided. The stator windings are so connected to a supply terminal 104 and terminals 93, 102, 103 that when the terminals 102, 103 are connected together and the terminal 93 is connected to the supply terminal 92 as shown the motor operates at 100-125 volts, whereas when the terminal 93 is connected to the terminal 102 it operates at 200-250 volts. Specification 374,908 is referred to.
