Abstract

378,902. Television ; copying-telegraphy. WALTON, G. W., 2, Dean Street, Soho, London. Feb. 19, 1931, No. 5265. [Class 40 (iii).] In picture recording &c. apparatus having optical means of the kind described in Specification 328,286, [Class 40 (iii), Telegraphs, Electric], for producing an image in which the elemental areas of the object are deployed in such a manner that they do not overlap in a direction normal to that of the deployment, the optical means are adapted to produce a plurality of such images, e.g. a pair of stereoscopically related images or a number of component colourrecords. Figs. 1 and 2 show an optical arrangement for producing double intermixed images, the optical arrangement comprising a pair of cylindrical lenses 2 having parallel axes and a single cylindrical lens 3 having its axis substantially at right-angles to those of the lenses 2. The light passing through the lenses 2, 3 is received by a field lens 5 and then by an echelon device 6 as in Specification 328,286 which produces the deployed image at 7. The cylindrical lens combination 2, 3 may be formed of a single piece of glass, Fig. 3, having one side formed as a pair of cylindrical surfaces 9, 10 and the other as a single cylindrical surface 8. Fig. 5 shows a form of lens suitable for recording &c. in natural colours, having on one side three cylindrical components 12, 13, 14 in staggered relationship, and on the other side a single cylindrical component 11 ; colour filters 15, 16, 17 are interposed between the component 11 and the respective components 12, 13, 14. Fig. 7 shows the nature of the image produced by the arrangement of Figs. 1 and 2. The object 20 is supposed divided into a number of strips 21 .. 28 which are deployed by the optical arrangement to form a number of images side-by-side, each image consisting of a part, e.g. 21a formed by one element of the lens 2, and a part, e.g. 21b formed by the other element of the lens 2. By making the lens 3 as two cylindrical surfaces, instead of the lens 2, two entirely separated images can be obtained. Specification 369,644 also is referred to.
