[Class 87 (ii).] Hollow concrete blocks &c. are made bv introducing cores into a mould, compressing the concrete located between the cores, then adding concrete and compressing the whole upper surface to complete the block. The compression is effected by a tamping head comprising a series of bars 22 constituting a grid for operating on the concrete between the cores, and a member 26 carrying a set of adjustable members 24 which can be lowered against spring pressure to be flush with the bars 22. The member 26 is lowered by a cam 32 actuated by a handle 31. The tamping member is raised by cams 43 driven through gearing by a handle 49, and is allowed to drop on to the concrete. The mould is carried by a table 2 which may be elevated by cams 3 on a shaft 8, the mould having fixed sides and apertured ends, one or both of the ends being pivoted and actuated by a handle 14 through eccentrics and rocking levers 17. The cores 19 are slid longitudinally into position in the mould by rack and pinion gear driven by a hand-wheel 57. Material is supplied to the mould by a bottomless hopper 50 running on rails and sliding over a fixed plate 53.
