Abstract

265,441. Heskett, A. J. May 26, 1926. Tamping-machines; moulds; feeding.-A machine for moulding hollow concrete blocks comprises a double mould 11, Fig. 3, with sliding sides 22, 23 operated by a cam 18, a feed hopper 12, Fig. 2, sliding over the mould and also cam operated, tampers 15, and cores 27, 28 movable vertically and operated from the sliding sides of the mould. The cones fall by gravity, assisted if necessary by the pressure of a block 46 on the lever 42. The front plate 25 of the mould is hinged to a bar 53, and can be turned outwardly when the bar is raised by a, pedal 55. The feed hopper slides on fixed rods 61 and is operated by a cam 17. The tampers are actuated by rotating arms 78; blades 81 which normally hold the tampers raised, are defected, for tamping, by an arm 85 carried by the hopper; tamping may be stopped independently of the hopper movement by pulling a rod 92 which turns the arm 85 clear of the blade arm 86. A strickler 91 is fixed to the hopper. Two or more of the machines may be grouped about a common vertical driving shaft, as shown in Fig. 9, and be driven by bevel gearing from the main shaft 107 and by the original cams and a spider 114.
