Abstract

378,545. Torpedoes. MARMONIER, L., 146, Avenue Felix-Faure, Lyons, France. May 18, 1931, No. 14649. Convention date, May 20, 1930. [Class 9 (ii).] Gyroscopic apparatus in a pendulously mounted frame is adapted to provide directional control for a torpedo and also function as a depth regulator. In the form shown, gyroscopes c, d are supported in a frame 1, suspended at 4, 5, in a vertical ring 6 pivoting at 9, 10 in a ring 11 supported in a principal frame 14 by trunnions 12, 13 (the latter not shown). Adjustable spring-urged brake discs 16, 17, 19, &c. damp the oscillations of the pendulously mounted ring 6. A spindle 45 mounted in the frame 14 is connected by a universal joint at 4 to the frame 1 and is maintained fixed in azimuth thus providing control directly or through radio-mechanical devices for servomotors actuating steering rudders. A lever arm 150 on the trunnion 12 and a connecting-rod 151 enable the device to be used as a depth regulator. The ring 6 may be stabilized about the trunnions 12, 13 by auxiliary gyros f, g. Locking devices for the ring 6, spindle 45, and gyros c, d, f, g are adapted to be automatically withdrawn when the high-pressure compressed air used for starting up the gyros is reduced to the normal running value.
