Abstract

<PICT:0377898/III/1> <PICT:0377898/III/2> Apparatus for de-aerating boiler feedwater comprises a spray chamber a into which the feedwater is admitted through an inlet b past a float-controlled valve c and sprayed through nozzles f, and heating chambers h, m, having tubes r through which heating medium is passed, the water flowing through a passage g into the bottom of chamber h and passing thence over a weir j and along a compartment k through a passage 10 into the bottom of heating chamber m whence it flows over a weir o to an outlet q. Heating steam supplied to the tubes r condenses, the heat given up evaporating some of the feedwater, which steam, escaping with gases through parts x, z into the spray chamber, is condensed on the feedwater, the uncondensed gases being withdrawn through an outlet y. The heating steam may pass through the tubes of chambers m, h in series in countercurrent to the feedwater.
