Abstract
377,665. Alternating-current induction motors. DEUTSCHE ELEKTRIZIT€TS-WERKE ZU AACHEN-GARBE, LAHMEYER & CO. AKT.-GES., 191, Julicherstrasse, Aix-la-Chapelle, Germany. Jan. 23, 1931, No. 2345. Convention date, Jan. 24, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 35.] Armatures, cooling; casings.- In an induction motor, more particularly for driving heavy rotating masses such as rolling mills which have to be started or reversed frequently, part of the rotor winding projects outside the casing and the winding is designed so that the greater part of the heat generated therein is produced in the projecting part. As shown applied to a squirrel cage motor, one end is completely enclosed but the casing at the other end comprises a fixed wall a and a wall b secured to the rotor with a narrow gap between the walls. The bars c of the rotor winding extend through the wall b and are electrically connected together by lugs d formed on a ring, the material and cross section of the lugs being such that the greater portion of the heat is generated therein. The lugs may be constructed to dissipate as much heat as possible and to act as fan blades or a current of air may be directed on those parts of the winding from a separate fan on the machine or from an external source. A mului-squirrel cage or a phase winding may be employed in the rotor. The resistance of the rotor winding is such that the torque is a maximum at standstill or at a speed far below synchronism.
