Abstract
377,029. Gear-grinding. GEAR GRINDING CO., Ltd. and BULLOWS, R. J., Anne Road, Handsworth, Birming- ham. Oct. 14, 1931, No. 28526. [Class 83 (iii).] A machine for grinding toothed gears-particularly helical gears-of the kind in which the gear blank w is rolled relatively to the grinding wheel x to generate the tooth profiles, comprises a supplementary frame a, pivoted on a trunnion b to the main frame c and fitted with a slide e having bearings for the work spindle i carrying the work arbor j, the slide being reciprocated to roll the blank past the cutter and the indexing of the blank being performed by separate fluid-operated motors mounted in the supplementary frame. The latter may be pivotally adjusted round the trunnion b by a rod d. The slide e is guided at its lower edge by a guide f and at its upper part by a guide strip g. The rolling and indexing mechanism comprising toothed wheels k engaging a stepped rack l may operate as described in Specification 376,911, a constant torque being exerted on the work spindle by a multi-cylinder motor n acting through gears o. The slide e is reciprocated by a fluid-pressure cylinder p controlled by a valve s which is operated by dogs on the slide. Part of the fluid flows through a reducing valve t to the indexing motor.
