[Class 59.] In a rock crusher having a gyratory head or vibrating jaws in which the material passes in stages or zones M, N, O, Fig. 2, through opposed walls 2a, 6 having relative movement, the volumetric capacity of the zones N, O below the zone M are made successively greater in order to prevent choking of the mill. As applied to a gyratory crusher, Fig. 1, the head 2 is provided with a mantle 2a secured thereto by a nut 3 and co-operates with a concave 6 provided with vertical ribs and a slotted upper flange 6a by which it is secured by bolts 8 to a spider 4. Shims are interposed between the flange 6a and spider to adjust the vertical position of the concave relatively to the mantle. The shaft 1 is suspended by a nut 1a from a bank of springs 12, the relative vertical position of the mantle and concave being adjustable by the nut 1a. A lubricating oil chamber is provided for the driving gear, the oil being circulated through the eccentric bearing by a scoop 16 and returned through the gears by passage B back to the chamber where it is cooled by a cooling medium in pipes 14, a skirt 15 being provided in the chamber to deflect the oil around the cooling pipes.
