Abstract

375,365. Driving-gear. KREIDLER, A., 1, Gansheidestrasse, Stuttgart, Germany. Feb. 19, 1931, No. 5287. Convention date, March 17, 1930. [Class 7 (ii).] The piston of an internal combustion engine is provided with rollers a fixed axial distance apart which engage two cam tracks formed on a cam disc and at the places where the cam track facing the piston is very steep the cam track facing away from the piston is less steep so that the outer guiding roller is just out of contact with the cam surface at these places during normal running, but in the event of a missfire the outer roller engages the track to pull the piston out of the cylinder. In a modified construction, which is shown in Figs. 1 and 4, the roller 8 running on the cam track 5 facing away from the piston 1 is connected to the piston by a spring 9 so that the rollers 4, 8 remain always in contact with the cam surfaces 3, 5. The roller 4 facing the piston may be replaced by a plurality of rollers sunk in the piston. To facilitate the withdrawal of the piston the cam disc 2 is provided with a removable portion 10.
