Abstract

374,910. Vaporizers. SOC. DES BREVETS CATALEX, 8, Rue Diday, Geneva, Switzerland. Feb. 18, 1931, No. 5192. Convention date, Feb. 18, 1930. [Class 7 (iii).] Heavy oil is fed from a float chamber 4 past a four-way cock 5 to sprayer located at one end of a cylindrical exhaust heated chamber 16<11> the walls of which are lined with catalytic material such as copper or iron. Air is fed to the sprayer through orifices 14 and additional air is supplied to the vaporized fuel through a suction actuated valve 33 or a butterfly valve 32 the combustible mixture leaving the atomizer as a conical sheet. To increase the superficial area of the catalyst webs 16 are provided in the exhaust heated chamber. At starting, the four-way cock 5 is turned to cut off the heavy fuel and to supply a light fuel through a pipe 38 to a float chamber 37 from which it is discharged to a diffuser 30. The heating of the chamber 16<11> is regulated by a valve 19 in the exhaust pipe 2 the valve being controlled conjointly with a valve 26 through which the mixture passes to the engine. As shown in Fig. 3 the chamber 16<11> is surrounded by a double casing 221, 22<11> and the valve 19 is arranged either to direct the exhaust gases through a passage 23 to heat the walls of the chamber 16<11> and fins 18 projecting therefrom directly, or to pass through a passage 21 into the outer part of the casing to prevent the cooling of the chamber when the gases are not directed into the inner space.
