Abstract

374,653. Wrapping confectionery. MACKINTOSH & SONS, Ltd., J., Albion Mills, and MADDISON, C. W., 2, Atlanta Terrace, Pye Nest, both in Halifax, Yorkshire. July 3, 1931, No. 19176. [Class 94 (i).] Wrapping- machines for parcelling confectionery &c. in which the wrapper is partly folded around the article, the projecting ends being then twisted, are characterized in that means are provided whereby the projecting ends of the wrapper are cut, to give a fringe effect, during the wrapping operation. Each of the confections B contained in a mould wheel and surrounded by a wrapper C folded in tube form with open projecting ends, is moved intermittently until a pair of spring-biased multiple scissor-like cutters E, F, disposed on each side of the partially wrapped article, are actuated to cut the projecting tube ends to form a fringe, Fig. 6. The next step of the motion of the wheel brings the fringed partiallyfolded package to the normal twisting jaws which twist the ends, Fig. 7. Alternatively the cutters may be incorporated with the twisting jaws so that as the jaws close the fringing is effected, after which the jaws are revolved to effect the twisting to complete the package.
