Abstract

Freshly spun artificial silk, such as viscose silk, is withdrawn by a preferably toothed roller and deposited in loose loops into a slowly rotating pot which is perforated and lined with cloths for protecting the threads. The thread mass is treated in the pot while protected by the cloths by spraying, dipping, or lixiviating with deacidifying, desulphuring, bleaching, washing, sizing, or other liquid. It is dried in this loose condition and wound from the pot preferably while the pot is rotating, on to a reel or bobbin. The spinning pot is removable from its driving disc, and may receive in known manner a reciprocating horizontal movement in addition to the rotary movement. Alternatively, the thread falling into the pot may be given a reciprocating movement by means of a moving thread guide or such movement may be given to the godet. In order to maintain the distance between the godet and the top of the thread cake, the height of the spinning pot and its driving plate may be adjusted. The position of the depositing thread guide is also adjustable. The permeable cloth lining of the pot may be muslin or artificial silk fabric, and it may be in the shape of a bag which can be folded over the top of the spinning cake. The pots may be sprayed with the treating liquid individually or in column formation. The pots may be constructed with enlargements at their upper edges, so as to facilitate their assembly in columns. Each pot may be provided with a perforated cover which fits directly on the spun cake or on the protecting cloth. After the wet treatments, the pots may be drained or centrifuged and then passed through drying chambers, or when in column form, hot air may be passed through the column from the top or bottom. Specification 344,751 is referred to.
