Abstract
373,439. Washing granular materials. McALPINE, R. E., 50, Pall Mall, London. June 8, 1931, No. 16712. [Class 82 (ii).] Sand and gravel to be washed are fed to an upper washing tank A to the bottom of which water is supplied through a perforated pipe or pipes D, the lighter constituents passing over a weir F to a gutter E. The heavier constituents are discharged periodically by means of a cone valve G on to an inclined screen 1, through which the smaller particles pass into an inclined trough J, preferably of zig-zag form, down which they are washed by water supplied through a pipe or pipes K into a lower washing tank L similar in construction to the tank A from which the washed product is discharged by the valve M. The mud from the gutters of the tanks A, L is led by conduits N, O respectively to settling tanks P where any sand settles, the mud being passed to tanks Q. A coarse grid C is preferably arranged over the upper tank A to remove large material. The water sprays and the valves G, M may be controlled automatically.
