Abstract

373,155. Drying cloth. WHITELEY, E. G., Beech Grove, Fountain Street, Morley, Yorkshire. Feb. 17, 1931, No. 4950. [Class 34 (i).] Cloth passing to and fro in parallel horizontal courses through a chamber is dried by means of hot air circulated to and fro from side to side of the chamber in an upward zig-zag path between the courses and at right-angles to the direction of traverse of the cloth, this circulation being obtained by means of a staggered arrangement of baffles mounted on or projecting from the sides of the chamber between the courses of the cloth. The air entering the chamber may be heated by internal steam pipes or by external heating means, and may be withdrawn from the upper part of the machine by means of a suction fan. Means may be provided to prevent entrance of air by way of the aperture through which the cloth is led. In the apparatus illustrated in the drawing, the runs of cloth 2 passing alternately in opposite directions through the chamber are carried by chains 2x. The air enters at 5 and leaves at 6, being heated by pipes 4 and guided by baffles 3, which may be inclined upwards.
