Abstract
373,034. Direct contact steam boilers. ENRICO, M., I-A-4, Viale Mojon, Genoa, Italy. Sept. 21, 1931, No. 26399. [Class 123 (ii).] Boilers generating mixtures of steam and combustion products under pressure comprise a closed flue 8 in the water space of the boiler shell 1 and having fitted at one end a liquid or powdered fuel burner 10, the combustion products passing off through piping 17 .. 20, thereby being successively led longitudinally within the steam and water spaces of the boiler and finally bubbling through the water and escaping with steam through valves 6. In the form shown the piping divides into two branches passing round the flue and terminating in perforated pipes 20. A direct outlet 16 for the combustion products is provided in the steam space to enable the temperature of the mixture to be increased. In a modification the boiler comprises two water drums and a superposed steam and water drum connected to each of the lower drums by two legs or pipes, the flue 8 being arranged in one of the lower drums and the piping 17 .. 20 passing upwardly through one of the legs, horizontally within the upper drum, and downwardly through a leg leading into the second lower drum into which the products are discharged.
