[Class 27.] Testing coins; coin action, mechanical-connection.-In a coin detector and release mechanism for coin-freed machines for use with milled edged coins, the opening member of the machine is connected to a vertically moving bar 20 normally locked by a detent 22 pivoted at 23 engaging teeth 21 thereon. The detent carries an angle plate 24, 25, the limb 25 having a knife edge 10 and a slot 26. An arm 27 also pivoted at 23 carries a coin funnel 6 provided with a screw 7 having a knife edge 8. A cam plate 28 on the rod 20 has a cam slot 29 in which a pin 30 on the arm 27 engages. A milled-edged coin inserted in the funnel 6 is gripped between the knife edges and transmits the movement of the arm 27 caused through the rod 20, slot 29, and pin 30 to the detent 22 thereby allowing a full upward movement of the rod 20 and actuation of the opening member of the machine. If the coin has a smooth edge, it is not gripped by the knife edges, but rides over the knife edge 10 and drops through the slot 26. A rocking lever 12, 13 is mounted in the funnel 6 and is rocked by a coin positioned between the knife edges to deflect other coins inadvertently inserted out of the funnel and the machine. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a fixed adjustable knife edge and a knife edge on a slide carrying the coin funnel, this slide being connected to an arm which is connected to the locking device of the machine. The presence of a milled edged coin between the knife edges prevents movement of the slide and the arm and so prevents the locking device from coming into action. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
