Referring now in detail. to the drawings, I0 designates a coin controlled vending machine embodying the invention. The machine I0 comprises a horizontal wall I I, from which there ex-` tends upwardly at 'the front, a wall I2, and from the rear of which there extends downwardly a wall I 3. Attached to wall II is a downwardly extending front wall I4, aligned with wall I2. Extending upwardly from horizontal wall I2, is a row of vertical aligned chutes I6. Each chute I6 comprises a rear wall I1, side walls I8 and anges 20, extending inwardly from thevfront ends of side walls I8. The chutes- I6 are thus open at the front.
The top wall II fis formed with a plurality of parallel slots 23, extending from front to rear, and centrally located with respect to the chutes I6. Slidably mounted on said wall I I, and aligned with each slot 23,4 is a draw bar 24 having a handle 25 at the front, a rod 26 extending fromv front to rear carrying said handle, and a block 21 at the rear end Vof rod 26 to push the lowermost package in the chute rearwardly when the draw bar is drawn forwardly and then released to be moved rearwardly under the influence of a suitable spring, as will be shownhereinafter. Fixed to each block 21, and extending downwardly through its slot 23, is a hook 28,v for the purpose hereinafter appearing.
Mounted within the machine, and below wall II, is a horizontal axle 30, to which there are` pivoted crank arms 3| carrying a transverse horizontal rod 32 at their outerv ends adapted to be engaged by the hooks 28. A torsion spring 35 on axle 39 has an arm 36 engaging rod 32 and tending to move the rod 32 rearwardly. Thus, when a draw bar is pulled forwardlythe rod32 will be moved forwardly to permit the lowermost package in the chute to drop in the chute. YWhen the draw bar 4is released, spring 35 pushes rod 32 rearwardly to push ,the` draw bar which has been drawn forwardly, in a rearwarddirection to eject the dropped package.

Attached to the slider plate 45 is a pin 46 passing through slot 4I and connected by link 46a to arm 3 I. Thus, when a draw bar is pulled forwardly, it slidably moves slider plate forwardly. If the slider plate 45 is held against movement, no draw bar Acan be pulled forwardly.
` The coin controlled mechanism includes suitable means to hold plate 45 against forward movement unless the proper coins are deposited. Plate 45 is formed with a slot 41 enlarged downwardly at its forward end to form a shoulder or stop 48. `Above slot 41 is a horizontal slot 49.
In the forward part of the plate is a slot 50 enlarged downwardly at its lower end to form a shoulder or stop 5I. Above ,slot 50 is a substantially similarslot 52 enlarged downwardly at its forward end to form a shoulder or slot 53.
At the forward end of plate 45 is an upwardly extending portion `54 formed with a slot 55 disposed above slot 52. Plate 45 is retained within the groove 44 by a vertical plate 51 attached at l its upper and lower ends to member 43; and also by a vertical member 59 slidablydmounted on member 43 adjacent the forward `end thereof. Member 59 is formed with slots 60 to receive screws 6I screwed to member 43, the heads of said screwsengaging the outer surface of member 59 to permit said member to slide upwardly` and downwardly.
Mounted on the side of the machine above member 43, is a member 64 providedwith a dime chute 65 and a nickel chute 66 to receive, respectively, dimes and nickels `inserted into the ma chine. Plate 45 is furthermore formed with grooves 65a, 65h and 65e above slot 49, between slots 41 and 49- and below slot 41, respectively, aligned with the chute 65. Thus, when a dime drops into chute 65 it will pass downwardly through groove 65a and 65h into groove 65e.
Slidably mounted on member 43` and below plate 45, is a horizontal coin release bar 1i) on which the coins come to rest when dropped into the chute. Thus, the rst dime inserted into the chute will rest on bar 18. The seconddime inserted into the chute will rest on top of the first dime.v I
Plate 45 is furthermore formed with grooves 66a, 66h, 66o and 66d disposed above slot 55, between slots 52 and 55, between slots 50 and 52 and below slot 50, respectively. When a nickel is inserted into chute 66, it will drop through through grooves 66a, 66h and 66C into groove 66d to rest on the release bar 10. The second nickel passes through said grooves to rest on the first nickel. The third nickel rests on the second nickel, and the fourth nickel will rest on the third nickel.
Pivoted to member 43, as at.1I, is a lever 1?. formed with an offset lug 13 projecting into slot 41, and adapted to be engaged by shoulder 48 to prevent forward movement of plate 45. If a dime is inserted into the chute, forward movement of slide plate 45 will cause the dime vto engage lug 13 to rotate lever 12 upwardly to bring said lug above the shoulder. Lever 12 is normally pulled downwardly by a spring 14 interconnecting the rear end of the spring with the machine. Conversion to permit any chute or combination .of chutes to operate for a dime plus a` nickel when. the machine isset for 20c, and to permit 1 any chute or combination of chutes to operate "for a dime when. .the machinel is set for 15 front wall |33 formed with a slot |34 and a rearwardly extending downwardly depressed` tongue or shelf |35. Fixed to said wall and in alignment with each of the brackets |3|, and extending downwardly therefrom is a headed pivot pin or rivet |31. Plates |38 are for the purpose of preventing more'than one draw bar from being pulled forward at a time, as described in my Patent No, 2,207,902.

` As shown in Fig. 9 of the drawings, the cammed portions |43 extend to the left of each member |40 and are adapted to be engaged bythe hook portion 28 of the draw bar disposed on the left of said member when said drawbar is pulled Vforwardly. When a draw bar is pulled forwardly, thecam plate 40 on the right vthereof will be swung ina counterclockwise direction looking at Fig. 9 of the drawings. The cam plates |40 do not normally eiect ejection of articles from any of the `chutes at the price for which the machine is set, but become effective only for the chutes from which articles are to be dispensed for five cents lessthan the price forwhich the machine is set.`
Horizontal wall is formed adjacent the front thereof with an opening |45, located just forwardly of each bracket 3| The upper end of wall |4 may be formed with la rearwardly extending flange, notched as at |46, to register with the openings |45. Slida-bly mounted on top of wall is a transverse elongated bar |50 formed with a screw threaded opening aligned with the opening |42 of eachcam plate |40. Any suitable guide brackets |52 maybe attached to wall I to guide the bar |50.
Extending upwardly from the left end of bar |50 is an arm |53 interconnected to a bracket |54 on the machine `ybya coil compression spring |55, which normally urges bar |50 to the left. Fixed to arm |53 is a cam |56 having an upwardly and :outwardly inclined edge.V |51. The cam |56 passes through an opening |56 in the slidably mounted plate 59. Fixed to the upper end of plate 59 is a pin |59 disposed above the inclined edge |51 of cam |56.
If the bar |50 is not connected to any of the cam plates |40, said bar will remain at its left handed position, as shown in Fig. 2 of the `drawings and will not raise the 4bar59, and thus is entirely ineffective. However, if it is desired to vend articles from any chute or chutes for 5 less than the price for which the machine is set, then the bar` |50 is connected to the cam plate or plates at the right of said chute' or chutes by means of pin or pins |60. Pin |60 has a screw threaded portion at its upper end screwed within the screw' threaded opening 5| of the bar, the lower end of said pin passing through the opening |42 in the cam plate. The -bar |50 may thus be connected to any one or more of the cam plates. If the bar |50 is thus connected to any one or more of the cam plates, then a pull on any draw baron the left of said connected cam plates will cause swinging movement of said cam plate to the right, or in a counterclockwise direction, looking at Fig. 9 of the drawings, to pull the slidably mounted bar |50 to the right against the tension of spring 55 and cause the cam plate|56 to raise slidably mounted plate 59 for the purpose hereinafter appearing. l
If the machine is set for 20, then there is attached to the bar 59, a lug |62 so located as to raise the lever 86 when the draw bar is pulled. If the machine is lset to operate for- 15 the block or lug |62 is fixed to the bar 59 in the dotted line position shown in Fig. 7, to engage the lever 18 for raising the same when a drawbar at the left of any connected cam plate |40 is pulled for- Wardly.
Thus, if the machine is set for 20, chutes at the left of any connected cam plates |40 will operate upon insertion into the machine of a dime and a nickel. The dime will raise lever 12 to disengage lug 13 from shoulder 40. The nickel will raise lever 18 to disengage the lug 80 from shoulder 5| and the lug or block |62 will raise lever 86to disengage lug 88from shoulder 53.
If the machine is set for 15, chutes at the left of cam plates |40 connected to the bar |50 will opera-te upon insertion into the machine of one dime. Thus, the dime will disengage lug 13 from shoulder 48 and will also raise lever 86 through f screw |0|, to disengage lug 88 from shoulder 53.
Furthermore, upward sliding movement of bar 59 will cause lug |62 to raise lever 18 to disengage lug from shoulder 5l.
'I'he chutes at the left of cam plates which are not connected to the sliding bar 50 will have articles dispensed therefromA in the usual way dependingupon how the machine is set, either for 20 or for 15o.
' t will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is Well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawings is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, I`claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a vending machine, a movable4 member formed with three shoulders, a member adapted to engage one of the shoulders toprevent movement of said movable member and releasable upon insertion into the machine of a coin of one denomination, a second member having means to engage a secondv shoulderto prevent movement of said movable member and releasable upon insertion-into the machine of a coil of ansa-rss of said other denomination, said secondand third p members `having-means to release said second and third members from the second and ythird shoulders upon yinsertion into the machine of a second -coin 4of the first denomination, a' fourth member, means to connect the first member to the fourth member for movement therewith, and means on the fourth member to engage a fourth coin of said other denomination upon insertion into 'the machine of third and fourth coins of said other denomination to move said 'fourth member and the first member therewith.

3. In a vending machine, a movable member formed With three shoulders, a member adapted to engage one of the shoulders to prevent movel ment of said movable member and releasable upon insertion into themachineof a coin ofone denomination, a second member having means to engage a second shoulder to prevent movement of said movable member and releasable upon insertion into the machine of a cointof another denomination, a third member having means to engage a third shoulder and releasable upon insertion into themachne of a second coin of said other denomination, said second and third members having meanshrto release said second and third members from the second and third shoulders `upon insertion into the machine of a second coin of the rst denomination, a fourth member, means to connect the fourth member to the first member, means on the fourth member to move said fourth member and the first member therewith upon insertion into the machine of a fourth coin of said other denomination, and means on said interconnecting member disposed just below the thirdmember and adapted in one position to clear said third memassale?,

In avending` machine, a movable member formed with: two stop means, `a first member having means to engage one of said stop means to prevent movement of said movable member and having means to contact a coin inserted into the machine, to release said engaging means from said stop means, said movable member having a secondstop means, asecond member having means to engage the second stop means to prevent movement of said movable member and havingmeans to contact another coin inserted into the machine to release s aid last engaging means from said second stop means, saidiirst and second members each having additional means to concurrently contact still another coin inserted into the machine to concurrently release said engaging means'of said rst and second members from bothsaid stop means.
9. Ina vending machine,` a movable member, stop means on said movable member, a `rst member having means to engage said stop means to prevent movement of said movable member, means on said rst member to contact a coin inserted into the machine to release said engaging means from said stop means, a second member, means to connect said first and second members together for simultaneous movement, means on the second member to Contact a coin inserted into the machine to cause movement of said second member together with said rst member, a member movably mounted on the second member, means tox said movably mounted member to said second member, in a predetermined position, said movably mounted member having means operativeonly when said movable member is xed to said second member in said predetermined position, to engage a coin inserted into the machine to cause movement of said second member and the rst member therewith.
