Abstract

372,106. Endless belt conveyers. POLLAK, J. E., 20, Holborn, London.- (Hazel-Atlas Glass Co. ; 16th Street, Wheeling, West Virginia, U.S.A.) May 15, 1931, No. 14422. [Class 78 (i).] In mechanism for feeding articles such as glassware into a leer from a conveyer moving across the entrance, of the kind comprising an article-engaging member or stripper bar, reciprocable in the line of feed and across the transverse conveyer by means of a rod, and means for tilting the rod during the return or idle stroke to deflect said bar out of the path of articles being brought into the feeding position, the rod is tilted by an element moving in a circular path and engaging therewith. The leer loader is mounted on one side only of the leer 1 and comprises an angular stripper bar 5 secured to a rod 6 which reciprocates through rollers 9 mounted in a frame 7 tiltable about a pivot 8. A roller 16 on the rod 6 rides in a guideway 17 on the frame 7. A connecting rod 22 is pivoted to the rod 6 at 24 and to a crank 18, driven by an electric motor 20, at 23. The rod 22 comprises a turnbuckle for varying the limits of movement of the stripper 5. The crank carries a roller 25, positioned to one side of a line through the pivot 23 and the centre of rotation of the crank, which roller, after the crank has rotated in the direction of the arrow and drawn ware from the conveyer 3 on to the leer conveyer 2, engages the adjacent end of the rod 6, causing the frame 7 to tilt and thereby raising the stripper bar 5 to clear the oncoming ware as the bar is moved back to its initial position. Owing to the position of the roller 25, a slight rearward movement of the rod 6 occurs before the tilting commences. The roller is adjustable in a slot, whereby the upward movement of the stripper bar can be varied. The positioning of this bar is secured by vertical adjustment of a bolt 12, on which the forward end of the frame 7, carrying a counterbalance weight 14, rests.
