Abstract

371,859. Automatic regulation; rectifying. SIEMENS - SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Jan. 22, 1931, No. 2209. Convention date, Jan. 23, 1930. [Classes 38 (ii) and 38 (iv).] Supplying consuming devices.-Relates to an arrangement for automatically regulating high tension D.C. supplied to apparatus such as dust separators. Closure of a starting switch energizes the filament of a rectifier valve 4 and starts a motor 11 which through a friction clutch 12 rotates the contact arm of a rheostat 8 in the primary circuit of a transformer 3 the secondary of which supplies the dust separator through the rectifier 4. The voltage applied to the separator increases rapidly up to a certain value and then slowly above that value until arcing occurs. When a substantial amount of resistance has been removed a contact ring 45 on ratchet wheel 13 connects a transformer 28 to the mains so as to charge condensers 25, 26 through a rectifier 27. When arcing occurs in the separator the grid voltage of a valve 18 connected to the electrode 2 by a coherer &c. rises, the valve becomes conductive and the condensers 25, 26 discharge through a coil 31. This temporarily closes a switch which completes the circuit through a coil 34 to close switches 35, 36. Switch 35 completes a maintaining circuit for the coil 34 and switch 35 energizes a coil 17 which actuates a plunger 15 to move rheostat back and reduce the voltage to below sparking limit, and also disconnects the transformer 28. The cycle then commences again.
