Abstract

371,513. Garment racks. HOWIE, J., Ranfurly, Chipstead Way, Chipstead, Surrey. Nov. 6, 1931, No. 4429. [Class 52 (v).] An airing rack is carried by a hollow fender in which the rack is housed when collapsed, that part of the fender receiving the rack having a lid which can be closed whether the rack is extended or collapsed. In the construction shown the rack consists of a pair of folding uprights 4 hinged to the fender and connected by cross-bars' 8, 10. The uprights are held in extended position by spring-pressed ball catches &c. The lid 3 closes down between the uprights when these are extended, the ends of that hollow part of the fender which receives the collapsed rack having sliding covers 13 provided with grooves to engage the ends of the lid 3 when the rack is collapsed. The covers 13 engage notches in the uprights when these are extended. An additional cross bar may be supported by end members arranged to telescope into the uprights 4.
