Abstract

371,370. Moving signs. CHAPMAN, A. E., 125, Stanley Park Road, Carshalton, Surrey. Jan. 20, 1931, No. 1905. [Class 3 (i).] An advertising & c . sign comprises a plurality of gas-filled electric discharge lamps 9 arranged to form an open body, the lamps consisting of tubes unsupported except at their ends 8, 10. The tubes travel bodily in a circular path, the speed of rotation being sufficiently low for the tubes not to lose their individuality of appearance. In the form shown in Fig. 2 the tubes 9 are mounted on a base 3 rotated bv a motor 2, and are energized by a transformer 4 to which current is led by slip rings 13 and brushes 14. A spherical mirror 6, a flat mirror 19, and a conoidal &c. mirror may be fitted. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the tubes 9 surround a pyramidal mirror 20 enclosing the transformer 4. Multiple bases may be provided rotating in the same or in opposite directions, with circular or eccentric motion, and a rotarv switch may flash any of the tubes on and off. The speed of rotation of the bases and the frequency of the discharge may be varied.
