371,365. Supply holders for yarnwinding and like machines. UNIVERSAL WINDING CO., 95, South Street, Boston, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Swanson, E. R. ; 62, Waldron Avenue, Cranston, Rhode Island, U.S.A.) Jan. 20, 1931, No. 1881. Convention date, Jan. 30, 1930. [Class 120 (ii).] A yarn or like supply holder for a winding or similar machine having means for supporting bobbins for delivering yarn and a device for doffing a bobbin from the said holder is characterized in that the doffing device is operated by the placing of a bobbin on the holder to doff another bobbin. The device c o m - prises a rod 28, mounted in arms 29 projecting from the supporting legs 2 of the frame, and a bracket or support 35 mounted thereon by a set-screw 36. This bracket carries spindles 42, 43 mounted in hubs 41 by means of set-screws 44, 45, in a position to deliver the yarn with their axes intersecting at the point to which the yarn is to be delivered. Spaced ears 46 project upwardly from the bracket 35 and a lever 47 is pivoted between them. The convex extremities of the lever 47 are bent upwardly and forked at 51, the arms of the forks straddling the spindles 42, 43. The bobbin B supported on a tube b is mounted on the spindle 42. When this bobbin is exhausted a fresh one is placed on the spindle 43 thus depressing one end of the lever 47 and elevating the other to kick the exhausted tube b off the spindle and into the bobbin box 52 below. The bracket 35 is mounted on the rod 28 by means of a hole with flattened sides which prevent movement on the rod 28. The yarn from the bobbin B passes to a point 4 and through a tensioning device comprising two discs 21 pressed together by weights 23 on a weight holder 22 supported on a spring 24. The yarn then passes through a slub catcher 27 to a reciprocating thread-guide 10 which lays it on the cop holder 6, driven by a driving roller 5, and carried by a swinging arm 7 pivoted at 8. The rod 28 may extend the whole length of the machine and carry a bracket 35 for each winding unit.
