Abstract

371,190. Glass melting furnaces. SOC. ANON. D'ETUDES ET DE CONSTRUCTIONS D'APPAREILS MECANIQUES POUR LA VERRERIE, 3, Rue de Castellane, Paris. May 20, 1931, No. 14890. Convention date, June 3, 1930. [Class 51 (ii).] Molten glass is continuously forced under pressure from a melting furnace F to a drawing-off chamber 4 bv a rotary gear pump comprising interengaging pallets 1, 2 and 11, 2<1> rotated about vertical shafts 3, 31 in semicylindrical housings 5, 51, the pump serving to maintain in the chamber 4 a glass level N<1> which is higher than and independent of any change in the level N in the furnace F. The surplus glass flows back to the furnace over the upper ends of the pallets. A modification is described in which there are provided two pumps the housings of which are connected by a weir or dam over which the surplus glass returns to the furnace. The level of glass maintained in the chamber 4 may be varied by varying the speed of the pump or pumps, and the member determining the level of the return flow to the furnace may be adjustable in height.
