Abstract

Textile fibres and materials such as woven fabrics especially artificial silk are treated with size preparations made from glue containing casein so that such preparations are substantially washed out of the finished material during the further treatment of the finished material without a separate process for this purpose being required. The casein may be used as sodium caseinate and the size preparations may contain usual ingredients such as fatty substances in the form of soaps, alkali silicates or the like. Fibres so treated, especially artificial silk fibres, may be used as warp threads in weaving processes. In examples preparations for dressing artificial silk are described comprising (1) powdered glue, powdered soap and sodium caseinate or (2) glue, sodium caseinate, emulsified cocoa-nut oil and aqueous sodium silicate, dissolved in water.ALSO:Textile fibres and materials, especially artificial silk, are treated with a size preparation comprising glue and casein, which may be used as sodium caseinate, together with, if desired, other usual ingredients such as fatty substances in the form of soaps or alkali silicates. Compositions described in examples are (1) powdered glue, powdered soap and sodium caseinate or (2) glue, sodium caseinate, emulsified coco nut oil and aqueous sodium silicate; these compositions are used dissolved in water. These sizes are removed from the material in after-treatment baths without the use of a separate desizing bath.
