UNIT-ED STATES LE IELL A MORRIS, or nA LAs, r xAs COMPOSITION or MATTER m5 Drawing.
. This invention relates to a new composition of matter and has particular reference to a new and improved composition of matter intended primarily for the purpose of treating 5 knitted silken wear such as hosiery and the I like.
' Anotherobject of the invention resides in the provision of the composition of matter referred to capable of preserving such silken knitted wear by preventing runs, snagsand .pulled threads without detracting from the appearance of the garment in its original condition. 9 r i It is further theobject of the invention to provide a composition of matter in which knitted articles of clothing may be treated withoutfear of discoloration or alteration of the original color or damage to the texture.
With the foregoing objects as paramount,
the invention has further reference to its in I gredients and the novel manner in which they are mixedand proportioned to bring about I the results as set forth in the foregoing objects andto be more fully explained inthe follow- It is a well known fact that when the delicate threads are broken in sheer knit wear, what is commonly known as a run will appear to render the garment unwearable from 5 a standpoint of appearance, and since these runs are normallycaused by the deterioration of the texture it-is obvious that a preservative, such as herein described, will eliminate much of this deterioration and preventthe stitches from breaking or pulling. f 1
i The garment may be treated only once in the solutionto accomplish the'results herein set forth to prolong its normal usefulness and g beauty.
40 The composition of matter herein described v comprises the following ingredients and their full equivalents: alum,-sulphate of magnesium, chloride of sodium. v
. In preparing the composition of matter it is preferable to use the ingredients in about the following proportions to obtain suflicient amount of the composition for one treatment a lication filed MM. 22, 1929. Serial Ira-349,276.
ingredients, after having been combined, are mixed with one quart of warm water.
The ingredients, when mixed accordingto the foregoing, are capable, then of bringing about'the results above mentioned by'placing the articleto be treated therein permitting the same to remain immersed in the composition of matter for approximately thirty minutes, whereupon the article is removed and placed Where it may dry. When the article becomes dry, it may be washed with any good soap in water, then rinsed and dried. It is preferred that the washing and rinsing process be done. in warm water to obtain the best results.
Though the invention has been described with great particularity, the details of the embodiment of the invention herein shown, are not to be construed as being limitedthereto, as changes in arrangement and substitu- "tion of equivalents may be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the I invention'as defined in the appended claims. What is claimed is: 1. A composition of matter for preserving knitted textile fibers comprising two parts alum'with onepart each of magnesium sulphate and sodium chloride, the said parts being mixed with warm water.
2. A composition of matter for treating silken textile fabrics comprising alum two parts, magnesium sulphate and sodium chloride one part each with one quart of warm water. 7 I v p Dallas,,Texas, March 19, 1929.
' Y MRs. LEIELLA MORRIS."
2 tablespoons of alum, one teaspoon of each I v of magnesium sulphate and sodium chloride. 50' The proportionate parts of the above named
