Abstract
370,283. Ball and roller bearings. BAYLISS, WILEY, & CO., Ltd. and BAYLISS, J. B., Tyseley Works, Rushey Lane, Tyseley, Birmingham. July 17, 1931, No. 20487. [Class 12 (i).] In a mounting for the crank axle and bearings in the bottom bracket of a cycle, of the type having ball or roller bearings the outer races or cups of which are mounted in opposite ends of a sleeve 2 adapted to be secured within the barrel 3 of the bottom bracket, the outer race or cup 5 at one end and the lock-ring 9 on the outer race or cup 5a at the other end have externally-coned parts 8, 11 respectively, adapted to be tightly forced or wedged into the ends of the barrel 3 when the lock-ring is tightened up, thereby ensuring the fixing and correct centring of the sleeve and axle in the bottom bracket. The sleeve 2 is of smaller diameter than the interior of the barrel 3, so as to enable the coned parts 8, 11 to engage the plain ends of the barrel 3, which are expanded slightly by the wedging action. The coned parts 8, 11 have flanges 7, 13 adapted to engage the ends of the barrel 3 when the coned parts are forced fully into the barrel.
