Abstract
<PICT:0370198/III/1> An apparatus for decomposing water into a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen, particularly for use with internal-combustion engines and welding plant, consists of a container 1 from which distilled water is supplied through a check valve 4 to perforated pipes 12 in a heat-insulated evaporator 2 provided with electric heating elements 5, 6, 9 situated respectively in the floor, the top of the evaporator and round the delivery pipe 8. The evaporator is formed of inner and outer steel shells enclosing a heat-insulating p lining 11 composed of aluminium silicate, infusorial earth and magnesite, the pipes 12, 8 being made of the same material; the inner shell may be of tungsten steel. In operation, water falling from the pipes 12 is evaporated by the heater 5 and decomposed by the heaters 6, 9 which are adapted to heat the water vapour to successively higher temperatures. A safety-valve 7 is provided. Specification 345,149 is referred to.
