[Class 6 (iii).] A driving gear assembly for single-purpose or combined side - delivery rakes, swath - turners, tedders or the like comprises a unitary gear-box in which are located the gears for transmitting the rotary motion of the road wheels to the shaft driving the gears immediately associated with the raking element, together with the clutch parts associated therewith, the said gear-box being adapted for fixing to or removal from the machine frame without interference with any parts of said frame. In a combined sidedelivery rake, tedder and swath-turner, a spur wheel 7 mounted on a stub-shaft 8, one end 9 of which projects through an oil-tight bearing 14 to carry a land wheel, and the other end of which may be attached to the main axle carrying the other land wheel by means of a clamp and locking key 11, meshes with a pinion 16, integral with two bevel gears 17, 18 of different diameters. Bevel pinions 21, 22 loose on a shaft 23 and meshing with the gears 17, 18 are formed with clutch faces on their opposing ends. A clutch 29 keyed to the shaft 23 is operable by a member 38 having attached to it a handle 40 co-operating with a segment 41 attached to the outside of the gear-box. The shaft 23 projecting through an oil-tight bearing 24 is attached by a universal joint 31 to a shaft 32 carrying a gear 33 meshing with a gear 34 on the rake shaft; the gears 33, 34 are carried in a hood-like secondary gear-box 2. The main gear-box is provided with a cover which may be secured to it by bolts or screws, a gasket being provided between the rim of the box and the cover. A cover is provided below the box 2.
