Abstract
370,165. Measuring force of gravity. SYKES, H. W., 41, Stanley Road, Coventry. March 19, 1931, No. 8408. [Class 97 (iii).] An instrument for indicating and recording variations in the force of terrestrial gravitation comprises a flexibly supported load operatively connected to means for indicating and recording variation in the vertical position of the load. In the form shown the load 3 supported by the spring 4 is connected at the upper end through multiplication linkage 5, 9, 10 to a pivoted arm 12 which carries at one end a nib or roller 13 engaging a clockwork driver recording drum or dial 14. Alternatively the record may be made on a light-sensitive strip by a spot of light reflected from a mirror provided in conjunction with the load. A knurled nut 17 is provided to effect an adjustment of the pivot 6 of the lever 5. The lower end of the spring 4 instead of being supported directly on the base may be supported on an adjustable member. Sudden shocks, such as earthquakes, will cause short period movements of the recording arm.
