Abstract
Chrome pigments comprise mixed crystals of lead chromate, lead molybdate, and/or lead tungstate. A part of the lead may be replaced by barium or strontium, and lead sulphate may be present. The crystals may be prepared by mixing the components thereof in the moist state and allowing them to recrystallize, but are preferably obtained by precipitating the components from a common solution, though their formation may also be secured by conversion of difficulty soluble lead compounds with a solution containing the necessary anions. Examples describe the preparation by precipitation of mixed crystals of lead chromate and molybdate or tungstate, of lead chromate and tungstate with barium chromate, of lead chromate, sulphate, and molybdate, and of lead and barium or strontium chromates, sulphates, and molybdates. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 341,881.
